Following a disappointing sweep at the hands of the worst team in baseball, the Brewers return to Miller Park to try to right the ship. The Brewers will start a four-game series against the division rival Cincinnati Reds starting tonight at 7:10.
Both the Brewers and Reds are currently 11-15 and are tied for third in the National League Central Division. Due to the shortened season, the playoff format has been changed this year. The second place team from each division will be one of eight teams included in an expanded playoff. The two teams with the best records who do not finish first or second will also be added. Due to these new rules and the fewer number of games, it is imperative for both teams to get back on the winning track. The Brewers have lost four in a row and the Reds have lost two in a row.
The Brewers will send Brett Anderson to the hill tonight against the Reds. Anderson is 1-2 with a 3.71 ERA on the year. He is 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA so far at Miller Park. In his previous outing, Anderson earned his first win of the season against the Twins. He pitched six innings of one-run ball, striking out five and walking none. Anderson faced Cincinnati once already this year, pitching three and two-thirds innings in a loss on August 8.
The Reds will counter with Trevor Bauer, who is 3-0 with a 0.68 ERA this season. In his previous start, Bauer pitched a complete game shutout (in a seven-inning double header game) against the Royals. Prior to that, he struck out 12 Brewers in just six innings in an August 7 victory.
