It was an exciting week in Milwaukee as the Brewers battled the Orioles. Here is a complete recap of the series and what to expect next from the Brew Crew.
Brewers vs. Orioles Game One:
Final Score: 4-3 Brewers
Freddy Peralta was on the bump for Milwaukee, he went up against Baltimore’s Kyle Gibson. Both starters tossed five innings and allowed two earned runs, the only difference in the starts was strikeouts with Peralta recording nine and Gibson recording seven.
Both of Gibson’s blemishes came in the first inning when Brian Anderson and Abraham Toro each had RBI singles to give Milwaukee an early 2-0 lead. Earned runs given up by Freddy Peralta and Joel Payamps did allow Milwaukee to fall behind for a portion of the game but a Brice Turang RBI single in the eighth inning had the game knotted up at 3-3. The score remained tied until the tenth inning when Joey Wiemer won the game with an RBI single.
Brewers vs. Orioles Game Two:
Final Score: 10-2 Brewers
Corbin Burnes toed the slab for Milwaukee, facing off against Baltimore’s Dean Kremer. Burnes had his Cy Young talent on full display in this game. Burnes tossed eight shutout innings, struck out nine, and allowed just two hits. On the opposing side, Kremer had a rough time in this one, the right-hander allowed six runs over five innings.
The Brewers put their hitting shoes on for this one. Willy Adames got the party started with a solo home run in the first inning. After that, it was the Joey Wiemer show in the third and fourth innings. Wiemer belted a two-run home run and followed with an RBI single. Milwaukee added to the lead in the fifth with RBIs from Jon Singleton and Brian Anderson. Andruw Monasterio had an RBI double and Victor Caratini had a sacrifice fly in the seventh before Joey Wiemer struck again with another two-run blast. Bennett Sousa came in for the Brewers in the ninth and allowed two runs but was able to shut the door.
Brewers vs. Orioles Game Three:
Final Score: 6-3 Orioles
Colin Rea got the ball for Milwaukee in the series finale and faced off against Baltimore’s Kyle Bradish. Rea looked very sharp, over five shutout innings he notched eight strikeouts. On the opposing side, Bradish notched ten strikeouts in five innings but also allowed three earned runes.
All three of the runs Milwaukee scored came in the first inning. Rowdy Tellez picked up the first RBI off a groundout, then Owen Miller and Jon Singleton had a pair of RBI singles. Stellar pitching from Bradish and the bullpen in the remaining innings kept Milwaukee off the board the rest of the game. Unfortunately, Milwaukee’s bullpen was not able to hold down the lead, a solo home run allowed by Joel Payamps along with three earned runs allowed by Peter Strelecki allowed Baltimore to take the lead in the eighth inning and eventually win the game.
Takeaways:
Overall this was a solid series for Milwaukee. Every starting pitcher turned in a quality start, and the offense provided sufficient run support. Joey Wiemer led the way with his walk-off in game one and multi-home run game in game two. Game three was disappointing but Milwaukee still won the series and played solid baseball. Milwaukee has now won back-to-back series, let’s hope they can bring this momentum into their next series against the Oakland Athletics.
