It was an exciting weekend of baseball in Milwaukee as the Brewers battled the Angels. Here is a complete recap of the Brewers vs Angels and what to expect next from the Brew Crew.
Milwaukee Brewers vs. Detriot Tigers Game One:
Final Score: 2-1 Brewers
Wade Miley got the ball in game one and had another strong start. The southpaw tossed six innings of one-run ball which whittled his ERA down to 1.86 this season.
The Brewers were not able to get much going offensively. A Willy Adames home run in the bottom of the first inning and a Rowdy Tellez RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning were the only runs the Brewers produced. Despite the lack of offense, the Brewers were able to hang on to win thanks to a strong start from Wade Miley plus additional scoreless innings from Payamps, Strzelecki, and Williams.
Milwaukee Brewers vs. Detriot Tigers Game Two:
Final Score: 7-5 Brewers
Corbin Burnes was on the bump in game two and had a solid start. When it was all said and done the former Cy Young winner went six innings and allowed just one run.
The Brewers put on their hitting shoes in this one. They kicked it off in the third inning with RBIs from Joey Wiemer, Willy Adames, and William Contreras. The Brewers stayed quiet in the fourth inning before exploding for four more runs in the bottom of the fifth. The two catchers William Contreras and Victor Caratini had RBI walks and Jesse Winker had a two-run single to make it 7-1 Brewers.
Elvis Peguero and Bryse Wilson did allow another four runs but the Brewers were able to hold on for the win.
Milwaukee Brewers vs. Detriot Tigers Game Three:
Final Score: 3-0 Angels
Colin Rea made the final start of the series and looked pretty sharp. The right-hander tossed five innings of two-run ball and struck out nine batters which is a new career high.
Unfortunately, the Brewers’ offense was unable to provide Rea with any run support. The positive of this game was the pitching unit. As mentioned Rea had a good start but the bullpen was solid as well. Tyson Miller made his season debut and tossed two scoreless innings and Cousins looked sharp as well. The only run from the bullpen came from Hoby Milner.
Overall this was a solid series for the Brewers. The offense wasn’t great but they had to fave three left-handed pitchers which probably won’t ever happen again this season. Every starting pitcher turned in a quality start and the bullpen wasn’t too shabby either. Let’s hope the Brewers’ pitching staff can carry this momentum into the next series and the offense does better when they get to face some right-handers again.
