The MLB trade deadline is approaching and the Brewers currently hold a three-game lead in the NL Central. The Brewers have put themselves in a position to once again be playing in the postseason, but do they have enough to make it to the world series? The Brewers’ offense has been a bit inconsistent and many believe they will look to add a bat before the deadline. There were rumors that they were in the mix for Andrew Benintendi before he was traded to the Yankees. The Brewers could look to add outfield help and J.D. Martinez is a name to watch.
Does JD Martinez think he’ll be a Red Sox on 8/2 at 6:01 pm? “Not if we don’t start winning,” he said. In fact, regardless of how Sox perform, multiple industry sources expect the Sox to deal Martinez. He discussed what could be his last days in Boston https://t.co/p9SoAAIDCx

Why The Brewers Would Trade for J.D. Martinez
The Red Sox are in a weird spot right now when it comes to being buyers or sellers. The team has plenty of talent but has not been able to put it all together this year. Martinez was an All-Star in 2022 so he has value and the Red Sox could get a decent return for a guy who will be a free agent next year. Martinez is slashing .291/.361/.466 this year and has played in 84 games, all as a DH. The Brewers could add a guy like Martinez and use him in a DH role.
The Brewers’ offense is going to need some sort of boost if the team wants to make a run in the postseason, and Martinez could end up being a good option for the rest of the year. The Brewers will also get to see him firsthand as they start a three-game series in Boston today.
What Would it Cost The Brewers?
Considering Martinez only has the remainder of this season left on his contract the Brewers might be able to get him without giving up too much. Andrew Benintendi was traded to the Yankees for three minor leaguers, but he is six years younger than J.D. Martinez. The Brewers could end up getting Martinez for one or two minor league players.
