The Milwaukee Brewers have a very exciting group of prospects that are currently with the Major League club or are very close to debuting. This core group may be the next wave of homegrown players to impact the team for several years to come. To commemorate this the Brewers recently released a video titled “Meet The Next Wave Of Homegrown Players – The Freshman”.
Four homegrown prospects are featured throughout the video. Featured players are Garrett Mitchell, Sal Frelick, Brice Turang, and Joey Wiemer. Three out of the four players were first round draft picks by the Brewers. The lone player that was not drafted in the first round is Joey Wiemer, who was selected in the fourth round.
Briefly, homegrown prospect Jackson Chourio is mentioned to begin the video. This international signee out of Venezuela also could figure into the next wave of talent, but development and age wise he is slightly behind the rest.
Meet the Brewers next wave of homegrown prospects.
The video features appearances from Brewers personnel including Eduardo Brizuela (VP-Special Assistant To The GM), Tom Flanagan (VP-Player Ops And Baseball Admin), Sophia Minnaert (Brewers reporter), and Matt Arnold (GM). All of the prospects make appearances as well to discuss their teammates.
One thing that stands out during the video is the characteristics that each player receives. Garrett Mitchell gets labeled as the most complete five tool player, Sal Frelick a blue collar player, Joey Wiemer a physical presence, and Brice Turang as the most underrated.
As the Brewers 40-man roster stands today, Mitchell and Turang are currently on the Brewers roster. Frelick and Weimer have not yet been added, but it seems inevitable that we see both of them at some point during the 2023 season.
