It is Memorial Day and the Brewers and Cubs are set to square off for a four game series. Monday will consist of a double header followed by a pair of 7:05 CT games on Tuesday and Wednesday. Leading into the series, the Brewers find themselves on top of the division with 30 wins. The Cubs are tied for third with 19 wins.
Here is a preview of what to expect over the next four games.
Headlining Mondays double header is Ethan Small and Aaron Ashby.
Ethan Small will be making his MLB debut on Monday against the Cubs. Freddy Peralta’s injury may have expedited his track to the big leagues, but Small was performing exceptionally well in the minor leagues. In eight starts this year, Small has a 1.88 ERA. Over his minor league career, he has a 1.78 ERA over 136 innings pitched.
Aaron Ashby will also be on the mound on Monday for the second game of the double header. This will be the first time all year that Ashby has been in the starting rotation for back-to-back starts. He is coming off a performance against the Padres in which he pitched 5.2 innings and gave up zero earned runs. On the year he has a 2.91 ERA!
Tuesday’s propable pitcher is Eric Lauer. Lauer starting on Tuesday will make three consecutive starts by left handed pitchers for the Brewers! Brandon Woodruff initially was slated to start Wednesday, but has since gone on the IL after exiting against the Cardinals with an ankle injury.
Despite injuries, the Brewers are weathering the storm
The Brewers have had a lot of injuries as of late. Despite this, they are weathering the storm and are entering the Cubs series after splitting four games against the Cardinals. They will look to take advantage of a Cubs team that has not been performing too well as of late. The Cubs have won four games out of their last ten and recently gave up 20 runs to the Reds.
