Boxberger’s longest tenure was four seasons with the Tampa Bay Rays. He spent the rest of his career with the San Diego Padres, Arizona Diamondbacks, Kansas City Royals, and more recently, the Miami Marlins. The veteran has a combined 77 saves through his nine years in the major leagues; the most being 41 saves in a season with the Rays. His ability to pitch in late-inning high leverage situations would be beneficial to the Brewers’ bullpen to take the stress off of Josh Hader and Devin Williams. Boxberger would be among the diverse crowd that is the Brewers’ bullpen. Everyone has something different to bring to the table.
Most of all, he’s a fastball pitcher but has a slider and changeup included in his pitch mix. Boxberger has a career 3.56 ERA with 413 strikeouts in 329 innings. For everyone counting at home, that’s 11.3 strikeouts per nine innings. There are only positives to this signing since there is no harm if this doesn’t work out. A bullpen can never have too many relievers, and depth is always beneficial.
