Major League Baseball’s winter meetings are underway and we have our first Milwaukee Brewers transaction of the meetings. Of course, it is not the blockbuster signing that the Trea Turner deal with the Philadelphia Phillies was, but it is a very Brewers-esque move. The team has signed right handed reliever Adonis Medina to a minor league contract.

Per MLB Trade Rumors, Medina was close to signing with the Kia Tigers of the KBO earlier this week. However, it appears that he is going to give it one more shot in MLB with the Milwaukee Brewers.
Adonis Medina in the Majors
The soon-to-be 26 year-old right handed reliever has a career record of 1-1 and an ERA of 5.35. He has only appeared in 19 Major League games, splitting time with the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets. His best years were with the Phillies, though he only appeared in five games for them. In those games, he was 0-1 with a 3.86 ERA.
Last season, Medina appeared in 14 games for the Mets, going 1-0 with a 6.08 ERA.
Scouting Report
Adonis Medina throws a fastball, slider, and changeup. His fastball is typically clocked between 90-94 MPH, but has topped off at 96 MPH. The slider is typically clocked at 78-82 MPH and his a very high spin rate. Some mechanics issues make it a bit wild against left-handed hitters. Finally, Medina’s changeup is his highest graded pitch, as it has a ton of sinking movement and is clocked at 85-88 MPH.
According to prospectslive.com, “After breaking out in the lower minors, Medina hasn’t quite been able to take that next step forward when facing more advanced competition. Regardless, he’s still shown a solid mix and good durability.”
The Brewers’ bullpen was certainly a position of weakness last season, especially after the Josh Hader trade. While Devin Williams will return as closer, there are still a plethora of jobs open for relief pitchers. Perhaps the Brewers pitching lab will be enough to help Medina take the next step in the Majors.
