After splitting a four game series against the St. Louis Cardinals, the Milwaukee Brewers continue their homestand against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Pirates are coming off winning three of four over the Washington Nationals. Here is a preview of this three game series.
Probable Pitching Lineups
Tonight will begin with Zach Thompson for Pittsburgh. The Brewers will counter with Eric Lauer. Tuesday will be JT Brubaker and Corbin Burnes. The finale on Wednesday will be Mitch Keller and Brandon Woodruff.
After tough first starts for Burnes and Woodruff, both had great starts against Baltimore and St. Louis. It’s seems like Burnes and Woodruff have knocked the rust off. As a result, we should see the Burnes and Woodruff we are use the seeing.
Will The Home Run Ball Wake Up?
If you would have told me the Brewers would hit only two home runs in this Cardinal series and still found a way to split, I would have said you were crazy. Yes the Brewers scored one run in back to back games, but we saw a team that was capable to winning games without living and dying by the home run.
The Brewers are swinging at good pitches a majority of the time. At the end of the day, the Brewers will be rewarded if this consistently continues. I think the Brewers will have chances to score a lot of runs and get back on the home run trail. This is too good of the team to have their bats this quiet early in the season.
Contain Hayes and Reynolds
Pittsburgh has a really good young duo in Bryan Reynolds and Ke’Bryan Hayes. Reynolds was in trade rumors this winter and Hayes recently signed a long term deal.
There is a lot of holes with this Pirate team and they won’t be contending for a few years yet. However, Hayes and Reynolds can take over games and any series. How aggressive will they be towards Brewer pitching and how aggressive Brewer pitching are in return will play a pivotal role.
