After sweeping the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Brewers enjoy a needed off-day today. They will next travel to Philadelphia this weekend for a three game series with the Phillies. The Phillies have not been playing well as of late while the Brewers have won four games in a row. Here’s what you need to know about this series.
Probable Pitching Matchups
Friday- Freddy Peralta vs. Ranger Suarez
Saturday- Adrian Houser vs. Zack Wheeler
Sunday- Eric Lauer vs. Aaron Nola
Struggling Duo
There’s no doubt the duo of Zack Wheeler and Aaron Nola is one of the best in the National League. However, that hasn’t been the case early in the season. Wheeler is 0-2 with a 9.39 ERA while Nola is 1-2 with a 5.52 ERA. I will be looking to see how both respond against a Brewer lineup that is aggressive early in the count.
If the Brewers can attack early, it could be short outings for Wheeler and Nola. But if the Brewers can’t put the ball in play and allow them to get back into a rhythm, it could be a long series for the Brewer offense.
Which Offense Prevails?
As mentioned earlier, the Brewers are on a four game winning streak, their best of the season and sit at 8-5. On the other hand, Philadelphia has lost four in a row and six of seven. The Phillies have the offensive power to win games and end the slump. Players such as Bruce Harper and JT Realmuto can change a game in an instant.
The Brewers are swinging at better pitches and are being rewarded for it. After a slow start with the home run ball, the Brewers hit five in the Pittsburgh series. They seem to be setting in now. Whoever’s offense can generate run faster should have an advantage in this series.
