“With the 20th pick in the 2020 draft, the Milwaukee Brewers select Garrett Mitchell, an outfielder out of UCLA.”
The Brewers have put in their pick for the first round of the 2020 MLB Draft. Surprisingly to some, they have gone with a powerhouse outfielder, Garrett Mitchell. This man is a force to be reckoned with. Based on votes, he is ranked sixth by MLB Pipeline. He really is the kind of athlete that a team would dream to have, especially the Brewers.
A player out of UCLA, Mitchell has 80-grade speed, which is well above-average. In addition, he’s got the momentum that could be Gold Glove worthy down the line. In addition to earlier praise, Baseball American ranked him 18th among top players in the Pac-12. He is widely regarded as one of the best outfield defenders among college players, making him a coveted prize of the 2020 draft.
Mitchell is built. He stands 6’3 and 250 pounds with arms that give him power both at the plate and in the outfield. His bat path is short and direct, which is key to hitting for power and average. He is, therefore, able to make a ton of contact with the ball. He’s a speedy guy, which is something that the Brewers really needed.
The Milwaukee Brewers have picks 59, 92, 121, 151 in the draft coming up this week. It’ll be exciting to see who they pick next!
