At this point it seems like it is only a matter of time before the Brewers trade Kolten Wong. Immediately after his 2023 option was picked up, speculations of him being traded began. It didn’t take long for the Seattle Mariners to call and check in on his availability. The Chicago White Sox have also been linked to pursuing Wong. Now, per Ken Rosenthal, two more teams can be added to that list.
Ken Rosenthal, senior writer at The Athletic, released a MLB hot stove article. In the article he indicates that he is hearing that the San Francisco Giants and Los Angles Dodgers are interested in Wong.
Rosenthal states in the article that a source relayed that the Dodgers trading for Wong is a scenario that they are exploring. They also would like to sign one of the big four free agent shortstops and play Gavin Lux at third base. The Dodgers could also be a team willing to take on Wong’s $10MM salary.
As for the Giants, Rosenthal just states that they are interested in Wong. The San Francisco Giants do have some very talented prospects in their organization. They protected Marco Luciano, Kyle Harrison, and Luis Matos earlier this off-season. However, even one of those prospects may be too high of an asking price for Kolten Wong given the fact that he is a rental player.
Winter Meetings start Sunday, December 4 and end Wednesday, December 7. Talks regarding trading Kolten Wong will only intensify during this time frame. Other teams could also emerge as potential trade partners as well.
We will have to wait and see if Wong is indeed traded during the Winter Meetings or not.
