Fan favorite utility player Jace Peterson had another good season with the Brewers in 2022. “On Base Jace” won the Heart and Hustle award for the Brewers this year from MLBPAA for his passion for the sport on and off the field. Peterson’s defensive versatility was especially critical to the team this year as they battled through injuries and illness. He was able to fill in all over the field as needed.
Offensive Grade: B
As his moniker suggests, “On Base Jace” had a habit of, well, getting on base. Peterson logged 68 hits and 34 RBI this year. He also walked 33 times. With 8 home runs, he definitely wasn’t the flashiest or most powerful hitter on the team, but he got the job done and helped the Brewers score consistently.
Defensive Grade: B+
Peterson’s biggest strength is his versatility, and that helped the Brewers immensely this year. His main position is third base, but he saw plenty of time elsewhere. Peterson appeared at first, second, and third base as well as left and right field and designated hitter, and even pitched an inning.

Peterson’s prowess showed especially in the infield, where his attention and speed often helped him contribute to double plays.
Overall 2022 Season Grade: B
One of Peterson’s most admirable traits is his obvious passion for the game- no at-bat or defensive play was half-hearted or careless. Every game was 100% effort and energy from Jace.
However, Peterson will not be returning to the Brewers next season as he signed a two-year deal with the Oakland A’s. The Brewers will definitely miss him next season, both on and off the field. As the Brewers haven’t been too active on the free agent market, they seem to be planning on internal adjustments to replace Peterson’s utility role, either in the form of Luis Urías or minor league promotions.
