The Milwaukee Brewers, at one point, had one of the best farm systems in baseball. Indeed, the Brewers drafted and developed stars like Prince Fielder, Ryan Braun, Rickie Weeks, Yovanni Gallardo, and Lorenzo Cain. However, over the years, the farm system has fallen to the bottom ranks of baseball, with few prospects reaching star potential. There is, though, hope on the horizon, especially with the top nine prospects in the Brewers’ system. Here, we begin a breakdown of these prospects and when fans can expect to see them in Milwaukee. Be sure to check back every day for a new prospect spotlight.

Prospect #5- SS Eduardo Garcia
Just how good is Eduardo Garcia? Well, the Brewers were ready and willing to sign him as an international free agent when he was just 15 years old. Of course, the rules do not permit international free agents to sign until they are 16. So eight days after Garcia turned 16, the Brewers signed him for $1.1 million.
That was all back in 2018. Now, in 2021, Garcia is 18 years old and has very limited professional experience. The first season he could have played with a Brewers’ minor league affiliate was cancelled due to the COVID 19 pandemic.
However, prior to the shutdown, Garcia was able to take part in the Brewers’ Dominican Summer League. In 10 games, Garcia hit .313/.450/.469 with a home run and three RBI.
What drew the Brewers to Garcia is his defensive potential. According to scouts, Garcia has the speed, agility, glove work, and arm strength to be a Gold Glove caliber short stop on the Major League level. The Brewers expect him to be Major League ready in 2024, when he will be 22 years old.
