The Brewers have not had the highest ranked farm system for quite a while now. However, over the past few season, David Stearns and company have invested in highly-ranked international prospects as well as drafting promising players. Several of these young players are already familiar to Brewers’ fans: Garrett Mitchell, Aaron Ashby, Brice Turang, Ethan Small, for example. One name that Brewers’ fans should learn quickly is Felix Valerio, who currently plays for the Carolina Mudcats, the Brewers’ Low-A affiliate.
For the third straight week, Felix Valerio has won the Low-A East Player of the Week Award.

Who Is Felix Valerio?
Felix Valerio is a 20-year old infield prospect from the Dominican Republic. He was originally signed by the New York Mets as an international free agent on March 22, 2018. In January of 2019, the Mets traded Valerio to the Brewers. In addition, the Mets sent Bobby Wahl and Adam Hill to Milwaukee in exchange for Keon Broxton.
Valerio’s Season
Felix Valerio is having quite the season for the Carolina Mudcats. He is hitting .333/.423/.520 with three home runs and and 23 RBI. He also has two triples, 10 doubles, and 10 stolen bases. He has only been caught stealing once. In addition, Valerio has walked 16 times compared to just 19 strikeouts. Overall, he has 41 hits in 33 games.
His Path to the Majors
Felix Valerio is still very young, just 20 years old. He primarily plays short stop, but can also play second base and third base. He is not currently listed on the Brewers’ Top-30 prospect list, and has his path to the Majors blocked by several other prospects.
Brice Turang plays second base and short stop, and Freddy Zamora and Eduardo Garcia are two other Brewers’ top-ten prospects who play short stop. However, Valerio has the versatality to play all over the field, a trait the Brewers highly value. He is still a few years away from the Majors, but his future looks bright.
