The Milwaukee Brewers lost their series at home against the San Diego Padres on Sunday. They could have had veteran pitcher Brandon Woodruff in one of those games but the hit he took on his elbow last week prevented that.

The two-time All-Star, who hasn’t pitched since September 2023, got injured during his rehab with the Triple-A Nashville last June 2. He was hit by the ball with a 108mph exit velocity off a bat by Gwinnett’s Cade Bunnell.
The injury wasted the year-long patience Woodruff embraced so that he can get back to 100 percent once he gets cleared for the majors.
He is out of a more concerning territory now after test results showed he only got a bruised elbow and all he needs to do is get the swelling out.
Manager Pat Murphy wants him to fully heal first despite their need for pitchers.

“We don’t want this to turn into rushing him back in any way,” Murphy said.
“We would not want [Woodruff] to be out there unless he’s 100% healthy.”
Brandon Woodruff feels he’s almost there
Woodruff himself felt disappointed with this latest setback but he is putting things into perspective.
“It sucked in the moment because I’d gotten to essentially the finish line the last two times, and something has popped up,” he said.
“Stay positive. Things can happen like that.”

With the doctors findings and his own assessment of his recovery process, how close is he to returning? Fans should be happy with his answer.
“My biggest fear was that it was going to be broken and likely cost me the rest of the season,” he said.
“But as far as right now, I’m probably a day or so from getting the swelling out.”
