After leading the Milwaukee Brewers to a historic 97-win season in the 2025 MLB campaign, skipper Pat Murphy was named the Manager of the Year Award.
On Saturday, the 67-year-old Murphy was finally able to receive his award at the Baseball Writers’ Association of America Awards Dinner in New York.
During his acceptance speech, Murphy couldn’t help but crack a joke about New York Yankees superstar Aaron Judge, who was also in attendance to accept his third American League Most Valuable Player Award.
“You guys remember the Yankees series? Judge didn’t hit a ball below 105 MPH,” Murphy said, drawing laughs from the audience and a smile from Judge himself.
Murphy also said, “I thought I was going back to college for sure, but they (Brewers) responded.”
Milwaukee indeed responded after a 0-4 start to the 2025 season, as the Brewers turned out to be just fine the rest of the regular season.

Murphy remembers brutal Brewers-Yankees series
During that Yankees series, Milwaukee was absolutely hammered by New York’s powerful bats. In the second game of that series, the Yankees took down the Brewers to the tune of a 20-9 score before crushing Milwaukee again in the series finale, 12-3. In the following series versus the Kansas City Royals at home, the Brewers lost, 11-1, before getting back up on their feet and winning four in a row.
Although Milwaukee failed to advance to the World Series after getting swept by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Championship Series, Murphy’s team deserves much respect for winning all those games and topping the NL Central Division for the third time in a row – and for the second straight time since Murphy took over the team’s dugout.
