The Milwaukee Brewers have a new catcher in town after they signed two-time All-Star Gary Sanchez amid spring training.
The Brewers, who won a franchise record 97 games in the 2025 MLB regular season, signed Sanchez to a one-year deal worth $1.75 million.
Milwaukee doesn’t really have a big need in the catcher position, as they have William Contreras. They have also recently inked veteran catcher Reese McGuire to a contract in the minors and even invited him to spring training. Moreover, Milwaukee has a prospect in Jeferson Quero. With the arrival of Sanchez, however, Milwaukee doesn’t have to rush Quero, who has only seen 59 games and 251 plate appearances in Triple-A.
Sanchez to be Brewers’ DH in his second go-around with the team?
How Milwaukee utilizes Sanchez in his second stint with the club mostly depends on what team manager Pat Murphy decides.

Murphy also indicated that Sánchez, who has 189 career home runs and 509 RBIs, could factor into the DH conversation.
“It’ll be a nice addition, both as a catcher and sometimes a DH, we could pinch-hit him,” Murphy said. “He’s so versatile — versatile meaning he’s a good hitter — that we could carry three catchers.”
During the 2021 campaign, Sanchez hit .220/.307/.392 with 11 home runs and 37 RBIs in 89 games and 280 plate appearances. The following season, he suited up for the Baltimore Orioles and saw action for just 29 games, hitting .231 with zero homers and 24 RBIs across a total of 101 plate appearances. A wrist issue and a sprain of the posterior cruciate ligament took away a big chunk of his playing availability for Baltimore, but Sanchez now appears to be healthy and ready to help Milwaukee.
The 33-year-old Sanchez started his journey in the big leagues with the New York Yankees, playing for them from 2015 to 2021 before suiting up for the Minnesota Twins, New York Mets and San Diego Padres.
