Brewers’ move deemed as ‘huge risk’ by MLB insider

The Milwaukee Brewers don’t operate like the Los Angeles Dodgers. They just don’t have the financial might such as that of the reigning World Series champions.

It partly explains why Milwaukee traded rising star and infielder Caleb Durbin recently to the Boston Red Sox, along with infielders Andruw Monasterio and Anthony Seigler, and a draft pick.

In return, Milwaukee got left-handed pitcher Kyle Harrison, infielder David Hamilton, and a left-handed pitching prospect Shane Drohan.

Durbin was a finalist for the 2025 National League Rookie of the Year Award, but he’ll now continue his development in the big leagues with the Red Sox.

Insider sounds off on Brewers’ risky move

MLB insider Robert Murray recently appeared on the “Foul Territory” podcast and shared his thoughts on the Brewers’ move to send Durbin away, which he thinks is risky.

“The Brewers clearly see something with Harrison where they think they can fix him, and if that ends up working, where they can get him back to that front of the rotation level kind of guy, or at least the upside that they believe that he has, if they can get him there, then that trade is going to look like a steal, but that’s a huge risk because Durbin seems like a guy who’s only continuing to ascend,” Murray said.

“I don’t know if I would have done it if I was a Brewer, but they proved me wrong time and time again, so clearly they see something in Harrison, and maybe we should be thinking of him as a frontline guy before too long.”

Trading Caleb Durbin feels like a huge risk, says @ByRobertMurray.

The Brewers previously traded Freddy Peralta, and Harrison could be a reclamation project that Milwaukee finds success in transforming into a consistently dependable starter to put behind Brandon Woodruff and Jacob Misiorowski.

In any case, seeing Durbin go was indeed a tough one to see and deal with for Milwaukee fans.
