Tuesday was an action packed day at the Winter Meetings. The biggest free agent on the market was thought to have signed, only to be false. A few free agent outfielders signed contracts including a former MVP joining a NL Central rival of the Brewers. Some starting pitchers left the free agent market. The first ever draft lottery was held and the Brew Crew made their first move.
Here we will look to summarize most of Tuesdays action and rumors.
Brewers & MLB Winter Meetings Round Up: Free Agent Signings
Two outfielders signed contracts on Tuesday. Cody Bellinger joined the Cubs and Mitch Haniger the Giants. Bellinger is betting on himself with a one year contract. Haniger signed three years for $43.5MM. Another offensive player to sign includes former Brewers utility player Jace Peterson. He is heading to Oakland.
On the pitching market, Andrew Heaney signed with the Rangers. Heaney now joins Jacob deGrom in Arlington. Taijuan Walker elected join the Phillies. Lastly, the Cubs made a second move including adding Jameson Taillon to their rotation.
Brewers & MLB Winter Meetings Round Up: Rumors
The biggest “rumor” of the day was when Aaron Judge supposedly signed with the Giants. Jon Heyman leaked the information. His information was not only wrong, but he also spelled Judge’s name wrong. In his tweet, Heyman referred to him as Aryson Judge.
Other rumors to surface included the asking price for prized catcher Sean Murphy. The Oakland Athletics have indicated that they want major league players in return. Here, we took a further look at what players the Brewers could offer. As expected, it is a hefty cost to acquire Murphy.
