Before the regular season started, the Brewers traded Mark Canha to the Kansas City Royals for a player to be named later. Canha, who signed a minor league deal with Milwaukee after spring training had begun, was given a 40-man roster spot with the Royals.
About a month after the trade was finalized, the player to be named later was officially revealed. While it wasn’t a top prospect from Kansas City’s farm system, there’s still some intrigue surrounding the addition.
Brewers complete the Mark Canha trade by acquiring Cesar Espinal from the Royals

Heading to Milwaukee is a 19 year old right-handed pitcher named Cesar Espinal. For Espinal, this is his second time being traded throughout his young career as he was previously dealt by the Baltimore Orioles to the Royals for Jonathan Heasley in December of 2023.
So far, Espinal has only pitched in the Dominican Summer League. The results have been mixed, but overall he has a 3.95 ERA and 73 strikeouts over exactly 73.0 innings pitched. Espinal has held opposing batters to a .245 batting average while allowing just 0.5 home runs per nine innings pitched.
