The Milwaukee Brewers will be returning a large part of their roster in 2023. Jace Peterson, however, will not be one of the players brought back. The utilityman and on-base specialist has agreed to a two-year deal with the Oakland Athletics.

    Jace Peterson with the Brewers

The Milwaukee Brewers signed Jace Peterson as a free agent in December of 2019. His first season with the team was the COVID-shortened 2020 season. He only hit .200 that year, but became a fan-favorite for his astounding on-base percentage (.393). “On Base Jace” was a small folk hero during his time in Milwaukee because of his ability to play all over the diamond and finding a way to get on first.

In 2021, Peterson hit .247/.348/.367 with six home runs and 31 RBI in 94 games. He also stole 10 bases while being caught just once. This past season, however, Peterson saw his production dip as his playing time increased. In 112 games, he hit .236/.316/.382 with eight home runs and 34 RBI. Peterson was once again efficient on the base paths, stealing 12 bases while being caught just once.

In his three years with the Brewers, Peterson played every position except centerfield and catcher. He got three plate appearances in the Brewers’ postseason series between 2020 and 2021. Of course, he walked in each plate appearance.

Prior to signing with the Brewers, Peterson played for the San Diego Padres, Atlanta Braves, Baltimore Orioles, and New York Yankees. He has career averages of .231/.321/.382.
