Phase one of the All Star selection process is officially over. I believe that Brewers second basemen Kolten Wong has been snubbed of an all-star appearance.
Upon the conclusion of phase one, the top three vote getters at each position advance onto phase two. Phase two will be a brief four day period to determine the starters for the game.
On the National League side, the three second basemen to advance onto phase two this year were: Ozzie Albies, Adam Frazier, and Gavin Lux.
Adam Frazier has been named an All-Star finalist at second base in the NL, along with Ozzie Albies (vote leader) and Gavin Lux.

From my standpoint, it is hard to argue against Ozzie Albies and Adam Frazier. On the year Albies has a .493 slugging percentage. That is composed of 22 doubles, a lead leading five triples, and twelve home runs. On the other hand, Frazier is hitting for a .326 bating average and has hit 24 doubles himself.
As for Gavin Lux, he should not have beat out Kolten Wong. On the season, Wong has collected more hits (57) than Lux (52) in 29 less at bats. Wong’s OPS sits at .839 as compared to Lux’s .681.
In addition to out performing Lux, lets not forgot that Kolten Wong has done this despite having two separate trips to the IL as well for an oblique injury.
Wong’s first trip to the IL cost him 13 days off in early to mid April. His second trip cost him 14 days from early to mid June. In that time frame Wong missed out on 25 games with the Brewers. Certainly the stats could look even more lopsided had he played in those games.
Throughout his nine year career, he is yet to be named an all-star and that unfortunate streak continues again this year. Perhaps if health had permitted it, Kolten Wong finally would have gotten an all star nod.
