News broke on Friday afternoon that Keston Hiura will not break camp with the Milwaukee Brewers. The team is currently exploring other MLB opportunities for him through trade. If a trade cannot be executed it’s possible that he remains with the organization so long as he passes through waivers. As this news was coming out live, 97.3 The Game hosts Bill Schmid and Tim Allen reacted live that included a few trade scenarios.

Bill Schmid and Tim Allen brought up several good points as the news of Keston Hiura not making the Milwaukee Brewers team was announced. One interesting topic discussed was how the teams first round picks in the 2016 and 2017 MLB drafts have not lived up to the expectations of former top 10 picks.
Corey Ray, who is now a bench coach in the Chicago Cubs organization, was drafted fifth overall in 2016. He battled injuries throughout his playing career and never really got going in professional baseball. Ray was able to make his MLB debut in Chicago, but the reality is that at this point in his career he was expected to be a player doing damage in the lineup for the Brewers.
The same expectations were also played upon Keston Hiura. One big difference with him is that he had MLB success during the 2019 season. Although his 2019 playing time was limited, it did set what was expected of him even higher. After that season he never got it going and now his time with Milwaukee may be over.
One trade scenario discussed during the show was the thought of packaging Keston Hiura with another prospect and trading them for a prospect with upside in return. This would be the best case scenario for the Brewers. Unfortunately they won’t have the upper hand in upcoming trade talks and a low level prospect may be all another team is willing to give up for Hiura.
It will be interesting to see what happens with him in the near future. No matter what happens, we wish Keston Hiura the best of luck going forward.
