Back in 2022, the Milwaukee Brewers drafted switch-pitcher Jurrangelo Cijntje as a High School prospect. As an 18th round selection, he ended up going the college route and threw for two season at Mississippi State.
His first collegiate season was rough and composed of an 8.10 ERA, but in his sophomore campaign, he posted a 3.67 ERA over 90 innings pitched and ascended into the first round of the 2024 MLB draft. After being selected 15th overall by the Seattle Mariners, Cijntje had a rather successful first year in the pros, rising to Double-A, and posting a 3.99 ERA over 108 innings pitched.
Now Cijntje is in the headlines again, this time as a prospect being involved in a major trade.
Former Milwaukee Brewers draft pick Jurrangelo Cijntje traded to division rival

The Seattle Mariners, St. Louis Cardinals, and Tampa Bay Rays came together on February 2, 2026 for a three team deal. The exchange sent Brendan Donovan to Seattle, Cijntje,Tai Peete, Colton Ledbetter, and two Competitive Balance Round B picks (No. 68 overall, from SEA; No. 72 overall, from TB) to St. Louis, and Ben Williamson to Tampa Bay.
For Brewers fans, the name Cijntje clearly stands out, as he was formerly drafted by the organization. Most will remember how his profile of possessing upper 90s fastballs from both sides, a clear weapon to have as a switch-pitcher.
Interestingly, a few days before this three team deal, The Call Up podcast revealed that Cijntje would only being throwing right-handed in 2026. Per Aram Leighton, last year, his fastball on that side averaged 96 MPH with a 71% strike rate, while his left-handed fastball was at 92 MPH with a 48% strike rate.
Regardless, Cijntje is now part of the Cardinals organization, and his development following the deal will be something Brewers fans continue to monitor.
