In 2023, Freddy Peralta did not participate in the World Baseball Classic. He was coming off a 2022 campaign where he threw just 78 innings, with a latissimus strain and shoulder inflammation sending him to the injured list on multiple occasions. Since, he has had a clean bill of health, not missing a start since, and with the WBC again approach, this time his stance/ability to participate has reportedly changed.
Milwaukee Brewers’ Freddy Peralta makes 2026 World Baseball Classic decision (report)
Boston Red Sox sports analyst, Spanish play by play announcer, and radio show host Marino Pepen has reported on X that Peralta has permission from the Brewers to participate in the WBC. With that, he plans on joining Team Dominican Republic in the event, with Nelson Cruz, who is in a manager role for the Dominican Republic team, being Pepin’s source of this information.

The WBC takes place amidst spring training, but requires players to play at a high level at at time when they are typically ramping up. It’s extremely likely that Peralta doesn’t handle his normal work load with the Brewers when present in Arizona, while also not throwing an excessive amount of innings for the Dominican Republic.
For Peralta, this is a great opportunity for him to showcase his abilities on baseball’s largest international stage. He has been at the center of trade rumors all off-season and is scheduled to be a free agent upon conclusion of the 2026 season.
