Well, we were waiting for Corbin Burnes to respond about the arbitration loss; But we definitely were not expecting him to respond the way he did. There was going to be upset from Burnes, but the things he said were pearl-clutching.
Every fear that going to an arbitration hearing against Corbin Burnes could harm his relationship with the Brewers was founded.
“There’s no denying that the relationship is definitely hurt from what [transpired],” Burnes said. pic.twitter.com/Xv8DFyiKde

“You find your true value to the organization. You think you work hard for seven years in the organization and you get in there and they value you much different than what you contributed to the organization.”
Big oof.
Burnes also mentioned, “There’s no denying that the relationship is definitely hurt from what perspired over the last couple weeks. There’s no way of getting around that…But when some of the things that are said, you know for instance basically putting me at the forefront of the reason why we didn’t make the postseason last year. That’s something that probably didn’t need to be said.”
They said what? I’m just as enraged as you are. Here are how some others reacted to this interview.
Trading away Josh Hader when in first place, not making any deadline additions, missing the playoffs, and now the comments made from ace Corbin Burnes on his arbitration hearing.
Brewers front office not making many friends in that clubhouse lately.

Lorenzo Cain called out management for disrespecting him for years
Josh Hader called out management for not focusing on winning a World Series
Corbin Burnes called out management for blaming him for not making the playoffs
There’s a problem. Brewers need to look in the mirror

In the last 7 months, the Brewers have managed to:
-Trade Hader for can of beans in the middle of a playoff race
-Piss off Corbin Burnes
-Not engage in extension talks with Adames
-Spend second lowest $ in free agency in MLB
-Alienate fan base with on and off field decisions.— AJ Donaldson (@AJdonaldson_1) February 16, 2023
The brewers arguing in their arbitration hearing with Corbin Burnes that he was a big reason they didn’t make the playoffs is certainly a choice. Tough to root for a team that does that to one of the top pitchers in the league that won a cy young 2 the previous season…

If the Brewers truly said during Corbin Burnes’s arbitration hearing that he was a reason they didn’t make the playoffs, they are gonna need to spend all season doing PR damage control.
What an unnecessary thing to do or say— WI Sports John (@BrewersRaptor) February 16, 2023
Yeah let’s just completely disregard the inconsistencies of the offense. Let’s also just forget about completely killing the team morale by trading away their all star closer while leading in the division. Absolutely ridiculous to blame Burnes.

Mark Attanasio makes me sick to my stomach
— Megan (@BrewCrewMegan) February 16, 2023
You’ve clearly pissed off your best player, your fans believe you are cheapskates, all during the week hundreds of millions of public dollars are being discussed for the ballpark. Add it all up and it’s a PR nightmare.
All for less than $750k.
What are we doing here?

Pay your best player what’s he’s rightfully deserved❌
Pinch pennies and piss him off, while attracting tons of negative PR✅ https://t.co/P2cVcKDzCD

This sets the tone for the feeling inside the entire organization… on day one of Spring Training… one that should be about rebuilding fan trust after the disastrous Hader trade. Stearns suddenly leaving. There is some weird stuff going on in Attanasioland.

The Brewers also allegedly tried to offer Burnes a multi-year contract, but Burnes and the crew behind him said it was “pretty poor.” Spoiler alert: it wasn’t really multi-year, it was more of a last ditch effort in order to make themselves not look like the bad guy in this situation. No one wants to go to arbitration, but when it’s over such a ‘little’ amount like what Burnes was asking and they shoot him down like that? He has every right to be upset.
A contract extension with Corbin Burnes is long gone at this point. Not only did they put him as the reason they didn’t make the postseason, but then tried to offer him a “poor” multiyear deal with a club option for 2024. Not a good look for the Brewers Front Office.
