This was a rough one. Coming off being swept by the lowly A’s it felt like things couldn’t get worse, but the Brewers seem to have outdone themselves. It is even worse to waste a monster performance from your star. Christian Yelich must be in the clubhouse wondering what else he has to do to get this team back in the win column.
Yelich Dazzling Performance
After getting swept by the A’s last series, Yelich stepped into the batter’s box with one objective: Annhiliate the baseball. This beautiful man had a fire in his eyes and hate in his heart. Minnesota Twins pitchers will be remembered as unfortunate souls as Yelich would step up to the plate five times on the night. Of those five plate appearances, Yelich would come out the better three times. Two of those hits raked in a total of four RBIs. One of those two being a two-run long ball.
Twins pitcher De Leon would make the deadly mistake of hanging a breaking ball high in the zone and that ball stood less of a chance than my self-esteem at a family reunion. The “Would it Dong” Twitter account would be kind enough to let us know that it would have been a no-doubter in 30/30 ballparks by traveling 401 feet…then the ninth inning would come.
Ninth Inning Meltdown
Not a single out. Devin Williams would not register in a single out in his save attempt. It would start about as worse it could with Twins centerfielder hitting an absolute bomb out to centerfield to draw the Twins within one. It would not get better from there. Williams would walk the next batter, then give up a single immediately after that would bring in the tying run. Once the game was tied, Carlos Correra stepped up to the plate. Correra, a man who typically loves playing the villain, decided it was best to just put the Brewers out of their misery and hit a two-run shot to walk it off. Devin Williams would step onto the mound with a two-run lead and step off the mound gaining more losses (1) than outs (0) in the game.
