After a season in which Luis Urias saw his offensive numbers decline, there is some belief that the Brewers could be looking to upgrade at third base. If the Brewers are looking to upgrade, they could do this through trade. One player that Reviewing the Brew recently took a look at was Yandy Diaz. They also provided three trade packages.
Of the trade packages, one included the Brewers giving up Urias himself along with a prospect. The other two packages involved the Crew giving up multiple prospects in exchange for Diaz.
Here are the three trade packages for Yandy Diaz proposed from Reviewing The Brew.
Trade Package #1
Brewers receive: 3B Yandy Diaz
Rays receive: INF Luis Urias, INF Zavier Warren
Trade Package #2 :
Brewers receive: 3B Yandy Diaz
Rays get: OF Carlos Rodriguez, RHP Brandon Knarr, LHP Nick Bennett
Trade Package #3:
Brewers receive: 3B Yandy Diaz
Rays receive: RHP Carlos Rodriguez, 2B Felix Valerio
In these trade packages, only the first proposal does not involve parting ways with a top 30 prospect. The highest ranked prospect involved is Felix Valerio, who is ranked 14th. Pitcher Carlos Rodriguez is currently ranked 19th and outfielder Carlos Rodriguez is 29th. Brandon Knarr, Nick Bennett, and Zavier Warren are all not ranked in the top 30.
As mentioned in Reviewing the Brew’s article, trade package #1 would save the Rays a small amount of money and give them a prospect. Trade package #2 would provide the Rays with two more Brewer pitching prospects along with a speedy outfielder. Lastly, package #3 would give the Rays two top 30 prospects that does include the Brewers 2022 MiLB pitcher of the year.
For me, trade package #2 is the one I would like to see happen. In this scenario, the Brewers retain Urias (who could then be used at second base), and hold onto rising pitching prospect Carlos Rodriguez. It is unclear what the Rays asking price for Diaz is, but the Brewers and Rays have quite the trade history so perhaps a deal can get done.
