Things got heated during the Milwaukee Brewers and St. Louis Cardinals game on Saturday, May 14. The tension seemed to start following a collision at first base, but a pair of hit batters, lots of chirping, and a stare down after a home run all contributed to the matter that eventually led to Cardinals’ first baseman Willson Contreras singling out one Brewers player post game.
Tensions flared between the Brewers and Cardinals

During the third inning of Saturday’s contest, Brewers infielder Caleb Durbin hit a routine grounder to third base. The throw from Nolan Arenado was on the money, but after Contreras had recorded the out he swung his back leg into the base path, therefore hitting Durbin and causing an unnecessary collision.

An inning later, Rhys Hoskins was hit by a pitch in the hands. Cameras then caught Hoskins and Contreras going back and forth as the two shared time at first base. However, an inning later, Contreras was plunked by a pitch, in which he proceeded to pick up the baseball afterwards and hand it back to pitcher Jose Quintana prior to proceeding to first base, where Hoskins was there to greet him.
Both benches have been warned after #Brewers LHP Jose Quintana hits #STLCards 1B Willson Contreras. The Brewers were unhappy with Contreras colliding with Caleb Durbin at first base earlier.

After this series of events, warnings were issued to both teams. From there, no drama occurred from either side until the ninth inning when Contreras homered and started down the Brewers dugout afterward.
Willson Contreras called out one Brewers player and surprisingly it was not Rhys Hoskins

Following the contest, Hoskins was asked about the exchanges between him and Contreras at first base, in which he responded, “just talking about playing first base.” Contreras on the other hand had a different approach with the media, where he called out an unknown player from Milwaukee’s dugout.
“One of their players, he liked to talk from far away, but then when he got in my face, didn’t say sh–. I was looking for more than that. He seems to be tougher. He’s a f—ing p—y. I’m not gonna name no names. He knows who he is.”
Asked if it was Rhys Hoskins, Contreras said, “he didn’t say nothing to me. I was expecting for him to say something, but he was looking away already. Look at my face. Just say it to my face, whatever you say from the dugout. And he was looking away.”
Despite all the previous drama between Contreras and Hoskins, its interesting that someone else was called out by Contreras post game. Regardless of who it is, Sunday’s finale between the two teams should be tense.
