The Milwaukee Brewers announced some good news ahead of their series in Texas. After missing over two weeks, reliever Grant Anderson is back in the big-league pen following a successful rehab outing on Saturday. In a corresponding move, the team sent down 25-year-old righty Craig Yoho, who pitched a scoreless inning in yesterday’s win. With the Brewers still missing closer Trevor Megill, Anderson immediately becomes the No. 2 right-handed option for late-game scenarios.
Brewers get underrated righty back for Monday’s action
In Megill’s absence, Milwaukee has predictably trusted Abner Uribe with save opportunities. Figuring out who takes the eighth, Uribe’s typical role, is more problematic. So far, Pat Murphy has employed a by-committee approach, emphasizing matchups as he draws from the day’s available relievers. The injuries, it seems, are never-ending.
Two of his better choices, Aaron Ashby and Jared Koenig, are southpaws. Against a righty-loaded segment of an opposing lineup, that is not ideal. Anderson gives the Brewers a weapon from the opposite side.
He had not been quite as sharp before going out with the injury, allowing 15 hits and seven walks in his last 12.1 innings. On the season, though, he has been effective – see his 2.87 ERA and strikeout rate above a batter per inning. Opposing lineups are hitting just .209 against him.

With Megill out, he is Milwaukee’s best option as a right-handed set-up man. Righties only hit Ashby marginally harder, but Koenig has stark splits. Anderson has struggled to keep the ball in the zone against left-handed hitters, and gives up a few more extra base hits, but he is capable facing the opposite side. The Brewers are glad to have him back.
As for Yoho, he did the job in the sole appearance of his recall, whiffing a pair of Pirates to close out Sunday’s game. He has completed 8.2 innings for the Brewers this year. Walks have been a problem – nine free passes have contributed to seven earned runs. At Nashville, where Yoho now returns, he has had great success: a 1.04 ERA with 55 strikeouts in 43.1.
