Former Brewers fan favorite extending career with Angels

Followers of the Milwaukee Brewers from 2016-2022 will remember Brent Suter, otherwise known as The Raptor. The soft throwing southpaw worked a remarkably quick pace, which was during the pre-pitch clock era, and he flung his long and lengthy limbs all over the place resulting in a deceptive delivery, which proved effective at neutralizing opposing bats.

Suter went on to post a 3.51 ERA over seven seasons with Milwaukee. Afterwards he he spent a year in Colorado and then two in Cincinnati. Last year was arguably the toughest of his career, posting an ERA over 4.00 for the first time since 2018, which was poor timing before entering free agency.

Now at 36 years old, and coming off a down year, Suter has inked a one year, Major League deal with the Los Angeles Angels. His deal next year is worth $1.25 million.

Looking ahead to this season, 2026 will mark Suter’s 11th year in the big leagues. He has just over eight years of service timing, which is relevant because if he can spend all of this year in the big leagues, 2027 will be a crucial year to surpassing the 10 year mark where players qualify for the leagues maximum retirement package as a result.

Hopefully 2025 was a one off for Suter. His track record supports that it was and Los Angeles should be a good place to prove that. If he performs well, it would not be surprising to see him be traded to a contender over the summer, as he would be a rather cheap rental option for any team with their sights set on the playoffs.
