The end of the 2022 MLB regular season is rapidly approaching. As it stands today, the Milwaukee Brewers are in contention for the third and final wild card spot. They trail the Phillies by 1.5 games and the Padres by 2.0. Today, they are looking to sweep the Reds in the finale of a four game series. If the Brewers win today, it would be their first four game sweep of the Reds since 2003.
In 2003 the Brewers and Reds met for four consecutive games at their new home field Great American Ball Park. The Brewers would go on to win all four games by scores of: 10-6, 7-1, 6-2, and 4-3. Geoff Jenkins had a home run in every single game and he collected nine total hits and seven RBI during the series. Pitcher Doug Davis also threw a complete game where he allowed just four hits and one run (unearned).
This year, the Brewer have won the first three games by scores of: 5-1, 5-3, and 10-2. In game one Kolten Wong drove in all five runs courtesy of a three home run game. Andrew McCutchen came up big with three RBI’s during the second game and Hunter Renfroe had a multi-home run game during the third game.
If the Brewers are able to complete the sweep against the Reds today, it would also make six consecutive wins against them. Overall, the Brewers are 13-5 against the Reds this year. They have had their struggles against other division opponents this year, but the Crew has handled the Reds nicely.
