The Milwaukee Brewers have started playing spring training games. Their first game was February 25 and the last exhibition game will be on March 28. So far we have seen quite a few non-roster invitees and younger players make their 2023 debuts. This is typical for early on in spring training, but today the Brewers announced when Corbin Burnes and Devin Williams will debut. They also discussed plans going forward for Christian Yelich and Jesse Winker.
Brewers announced spring training debut dates for Corbin Burnes and Devin Williams.
Per Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Devin Williams will get the start against the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday March 1. This likely means that he will get to face a few of the Angels normal starters. This could be beneficial for the Brewers and Angels will play a series in Milwaukee at the end of April.
Corbin Burnes will debut a day later, March 2, against the Rangers. It’s unknown at this time how many innings or pitches he will be limited to, but anywhere from 1-3 innings seems likely. As spring training progresses, Burnes will throw more innings.
In regards to Christian Yelich and Jesse Winker, both are expected to debut at some point this week. Yelich is expected to be the team’s everyday left fielder whereas Winker will serve primarily as the designated hitter to begin with. Winker is reportedly ahead of schedule after recovering from surgeries to his knee and neck during the offseason.
