What Does This Mean for the Brewers?
January 13th is the final day for teams to exchange figures with arbitration-eligible players. The Brewers still have many players who are arbitration eligible who they can still reach a deal with before hearings. They were able to reach a deal with Milner for the 2023 season at 1.025 million dollars.

Milner was a key piece of the Brewers’ bullpen in 2022 and will hopefully find a more stable role this season. Last season, when the Brewers traded Josh Hader the bullpen took a hit in terms of player roles. That paired with injuries to the starting rotation, led to plenty of relievers pitching in situations they were not accustomed to. Milner finished the year with a 3-3 record posting a 3.76 ERA, 1.175 WHIP and 64 strikeouts in 64.2 innings of work. Milner was also exceptional in dealing with inherited runners.
Victor Caratini and the Brewers have agreed to a $2.8 million deal for 2023 to avoid arbitration, per source.

The Brewers have not been very active in free agency, but they have made a fairly important move this offseason. The team acquired William Contreras in a three-team trade involving the A’s and the Braves. While Contreras will likely be the starting catcher, he does provide value as a DH meaning backup catcher will still be a highly valued position for the Brew Crew. Victor Caratini was acquired to be the backup catcher but ended up being the best option at the position. The Brewers have agreed to a 2.8 million dollar deal with the veteran catcher.
