The Brewers have announced the additions of three former Brewers to their Wall of Honor: Carlos Gomez, Yovani Gallardo, and Francisco “K-Rod” Rodriguez. The Brewers also announced former Milwaukee Braves outfielder Wes Covington will be added to the Milwaukee Braves Wall of Honor as well. No former players garnered the required 65% of votes to be added to the Wall of Fame. Ben Sheets, Ted Simmons, Pete Vuckovich, Jeff Cirillo, Mike Caldwell, and George Bamburger are among the former Brewers who were up for election to the Walk of Fame.
Brewers CF- Carlos Gomez
Carlos Gomez played for the Brewers from 2010-2015. During his tenure in Milwaukee, he made two All-Star teams (2013 and 2014) and won a gold glove (2013). He finished his time in Milwaukee with a .267/.325/.452 slash line, 87 home runs, 288 RBI’s, and 152 stolen bases. After being traded by the Brewers in 2015, he spent time with the Astros, Rangers, Rays, and Mets. He led the American League in HBP in both 2017 and 2018. He only played 34 games for the Mets last season. The Brewers announced that Gomez will retire as a member of the Brewers on the day he is added to the Wall of Honor.
Brewers RP- Francisco Rodriguez
“K-Rod” spent 5 out of his 16 seasons with the Brewers. He was acquired in 2011 to help the Brewers make their playoff push. It was successful as K-Rod went 4-0 with a 1.86 ERA and 1.13 WHIP down the stretch. After a tough 2012 season, he was resigned for 2013, but traded to the Baltimore Orioles. He would sign as a free agent with the Brewers again, though. His second stint with Milwaukee was much more successful. He was an All-Star in 2014 and 2015. He joined Jon Axford as the only Brewers to save at least 35 games in multiple seasons. All told, K-Rod finished his time in Milwaukee with a 2.91 ERA, 95 saves, and 266 strikeouts in 250.2 innings.
Brewers SP- Yovani Gallardo
Yovani Gallardo was drafted by the Brewers in the second round of the 2004 draft. He broke into the Majors in 2007 with a 9-5 record, 3.67 ERA, and 1.27 WHIP. In 20 games, he had 101 strikeouts. He would go on to become the Brewers’ all-time strikeout leader with 1,226 strikeouts while a member of the Brewers. From 2009-2012, he had four straight seasons of at least 200 strikeouts. In 2010, Gallardo earned his only All-Star selection and won the Silver Slugger Award. He was traded by the Brewers in 2015 to Texas in the trade that brough Corey Knebel to Milwaukee.
Braves LF- Wes Covington
Wes Covington spent the first 5 years of his 11-year career with the Milwaukee Braves. When the Braves won the World Series in 1957, Covington had a slash line of .284/.339/..537 with 21 home runs and 65 RBI’s. He was even better in 1958 when he hit .330/.380/.622 with 24 home runs and 74 RBI’s. Covington also played for the Phillies, Athletics, Dodgers, Cubs, and White Sox during his career. Covington passed away on July 4, 2011. There will be a special ceremony to honor his induction to the Wall of Honor on May 20.
