In his first season in Milwaukee, fan-favorite Mike Brosseau brought the Brewers many memorable moments. Though he spent considerable time on the injured list himself this season, Brosseau was crucial in managing the Brewers’ injury load and covering the infield.
Offensive Grade: B+
While his .255 batting average and 6 home runs on the season aren’t anything to write home about, Mike Brosseau came through big when the Brewers needed it. Statistically, this season wasn’t Brosseau’s best in the majors, but those numbers don’t tell the whole story. Brosseau was very much a situational performer this season and really shone when the pressure was on.
Exhibit A? His walk-off grand slam against the New York Mets on September 21 to secure a win in the heart of the Brewers’ Wild Card fight was about as clutch as it gets.

Moments like this made Brosseau a natural choice to pitch hit as the season progressed.
Defensive Grade: C-
Brosseau mostly played at third base this season, but also made appearances at first base, shortstop, and designated hitter as needed. (And who could forget his pitching? He kept a perfect 0.00 ERA across 3 outings.)
His defense at shortstop specifically was a liability more than anything. His first base appearances were limited due to the Brewers’ roster makeup, but promising. In general, Brosseau was fairly average defensively but when he blundered, it tended to be big.
Overall 2022 Season Grade: B
Mike Brosseau’s contract keeps him with the Crew through 2025. He’s slated to make $1.2 million in his first year of arbitration this upcoming season. Brosseau fits many needs, which as we saw this season especially comes in handy with injuries. He should continue to serve the team well, as well as keep winning fans’ hearts- he should be a major part of the returning lineup next year. Especially considering the uncertainty of where Brosseau would fit in the roster and what to expect from him, I would chalk his season up as a major success.
