The Green Bay Packers were rumored to in the mix for a possible trade with the Carolina Panthers for wide receiver Robbie Anderson. Those rumors were put to rest on Monday. The Arizona Cardinals acquired Anderson in exchange for a 2024 sixth-round pick and a 2025 seventh-round pick. Marquise “Hollywood” Brown, another Cardinals wideout, suffered a foot injury on Sunday, causing Arizona to pull the trigger on the Anderson trade.
Robbie Anderson caused quite the stir during his last game as a Panther. He was reportedly sitting on Gatorade coolers, away from his teammates. In addition, Anderson was apparently arguing with the wide receivers coach and interim head coach. His antics eventually caused his own team to eject him from the game late in the third quarter. Anderson was held without a single catch in that game.
Packers pass on Robbie Anderson trade
Recently the Packers have been linked to numerous wide receivers when it comes to possible trade destinations or free-agent signings. It might have been in the Packers’ best interest not to acquire Robbie Anderson. Yes, he’s talented, but with an “Antonio Brown like” meltdown on Sunday, the Packers may have dodged a bullet. Green Bay doesn’t need any more drama. D.J. Moore, fellow Panthers receiver, was rumored to be someone Green Bay was interested in. Odell Beckham Jr is yet another name that comes up frequently when talking about who the Packers should sign at the WR position.
Problems at the wide receiver position
Injuries to Christian Watson, Sammy Watkins, and now Randall Cobb have proved to be devastating for the Packers this season. Allen Lazard has seemed to be the only reliable target for Aaron Rodgers. Amari Rodgers has been nothing short of disappointing. However, the Packers are working out free agent WR, Ty Fryfogle, this week. Not the name Packers’ fans’ were probably hoping for, or even heard of. It will be interesting to see what the Packers decide to do to solve their issues at WR moving forward.
