The Packers are making a final signing before their Super Bowl push. A familiar face is coming home and it may be his final stop before retiring. Tramon Williams is being signed to the Packers practice squad if all tests are passed according to Matt LaFleur.
It was reported yesterday that Williams flew to Green Bay and visited with the team. Just one day later the Packers are adding him to their practice squad.
Contribution
Williams was with the Packers last year and played a significant role. This year he spent some time with the Ravens who were eliminated from the playoffs by the Bills just last weekend. It’s unclear if Williams will be called up from the practice squad. However, Tramon Williams was a major piece in the Packers last Super Bowl run. Being such a young team, the Pack could use as many veteran leaders as possible.
Additionally, the signing seems to be one that is simply trying to get a guy who has done so much for the organization one more ring. However, if Williams is called on to play, it should be no struggle for him to make an impact. He played on this defense last year and is in playing shape. If the Packers feel they need depth in the secondary or special teams, they will not hesitate to call Williams up.
Overall
The signing isn’t flashy, but it brings home a fan favorite. The Packers will look to get a Packers great one more Super Bowl ring before he seemingly hangs up the cleats.
