The Green Bay Packers have made a move on the defensive side of the ball. More specifically they have added depth to their inside linebackers going into Week 3. The Packers signed ILB DQ Thomas.
DQ Thomas Signs With The Packers
The Packers’ signed Thomas to the practice squad, source said. He is a highly recruited UDFA from Middle Tennessee St., who received $130K guarantee to sign with Jets. New York then released him from their practice squad.
DQ Thomas is 6’ 2”, 216-pound, fast LB who recorded 20.5 sacks at Middle Tennessee State. Those 20.5 sacks were good enough for third-most all-time at MTS. Additionally, he ranked No. 1 in school history in tackles for loss with 53. Thomas absolutely balled out during his senior season (2021), making him an intriguing Packers signing. His season ended ranking third on the team with 89 tackles. That included 17.0 TFLs, 5.0 sacks, two interceptions, seven hurries, a fumble recovery and a forced fumble.
This type of Packers signing certainly has special teams written all over it. Getting players who seem to have a nose for the ball is what Rich Bisaccia is all about. We’ll see whether or not Thomas sees real snaps at ILB. De’Vondre Campbell continues to be the heart of the Packers’ ILB group, and first-round rookie Quay Walker has certainly impressed early. We will see if Thomas gets called up for Week 3 vs. Tampa Bay, but The Packers have to feel pretty good about their ILB group following the signing.
