After two injury-riddled seasons, the Packers are waiving TE Jace Sternberger before his third season even begins.
Jace Sternberger stats
The former 3rd round pick played 18 games throughout the last two seasons (32 possible games). Jace was suspended for the first two games of this season. Sternberger provided the Packers with 12 catches for 114 yards and 1 TD in his two seasons. He was never really utilized too much with the breakout of Robert Tonyan and the blocking prowess of Marcedes Lewis.
What this means for the Packers
Sternberger hasn’t made much of an impact for the Packers the last two seasons. Both Josiah Deguara and Dominque Daffney seem to have beaten him out for the TE3 and TE4 spots. Not much will change for the Packers with the waive of Sternberger. The biggest thing to note is that the players on the current Packers roster won’t have to be worried about being cut to make room for Sternberger.
Final Thoughts on Jace Sternberger
It is unfortunate that Sternberger couldn’t stay healthy and productive for the Packers. He had the talent, but it never translated to the field. It is also very well-known that Sternberger was taken one pick before Terry McLaurin. Unfortunately, Sternberger will go down as a 3rd round bust for the Packers.
