Packers elevate a wide receiver for Week 6
The Green Bay Packers announced a few major roster moves on Saturday before their Week 6 game. Reports came out yesterday that the Packers would be without rookie wide receiver Christian Watson battling a hamstring injury. With Watson and Sammy Watkins on injured reserve with hamstring issues, the Packers needed help at wide receiver Sunday. The Packers elevated a wide receiver for the Jets game.
According to a statement by the Packers, they are elevating Juwann Winfree from the practice squad for the game against the New York Jets. The Packers are also placing linebacker Tipa Galeai on injured reserve. Galeai is also battling a hamstring injury. He will be out for at least four weeks with the designation.
Winfree can help, for now
There was a report this week the Packers might place Watson on injured reserve. So far, he has not received the designation. Winfree is, at best, a temporary solution at wide receiver for the Packers. He has just one reception for 17 yards this season. Winfree has played only 14 games since coming into the league in 2019.
The Packers need some wide receivers to get healthy, or they’ll have to become aggressive to get some help. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers has floated the idea for Odell Beckam Jr. as he knows they need depth with pass catchers.
