Johnny Davis and the Wisconsin Badgers have been the surprise of college basketball this season. A huge part of this success has been the rise of superstar Johnny Davis. Announced today, Johnny was named National Player of the Week. Along with Big Ten Co-Player of the week and even the Andy Katz player of the week.
A Perfect Week
What a crazy week it was for Wisconsin basketball having 3 games in just 7 days, the Badgers went 3-0 and now jumped to number 13 in the country. Winning games at Purdue, Iowa, and another road win in Maryland. Johnny averaged 27.3 PPG, 10 rebounds, and 3 assists. With matchups against projected lottery pick Jaden Ivey and NCAA leading scorer Keegan Murray. Make no mistake about it, Johnny Davis was the best player on the floor all week and now has an argument for best player in the country.
The Purdue game really won this award for Johnny Davis in my opinion. On the road at Mackey arena against one of the best teams in the country. Davis had career highs in both points and rebounds. Finishing with 37 points, 14 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, and 2 blocks. Johnny has also scored 15+ points in 13 straight games. The first Badgers to do so since Devin Harris in 2003-2004.
Johnny’s Future?
Each week, Davis continues to outdo himself. With the rise in National coverage, NBA teams are salivating at the idea of Johnny Davis in their organization. A perfect sized athletic wing that can defend, finish at the hoop, and has some impressive shot making. A reminder to all BAdger fans to appreciate and enjoy Johnny while you can. He is looking at a serious payday in the NBA come this Summer. A player who stayed home, had success, and went on to the NBA is great for this program. He even showed off a little NBA range last night. I don’t think Bo Ryan would have liked this shot.
What’s Next?
Johnny Davis gets a lot of praise as he should, but this Badger team as a whole as a whole has been so impressive. Last night Tyler Wahl came up huge in that win with a career high 21 points. The road doesn’t get any easier this week as the Badgers host number 16 Ohio State Thursday night. A win there and we could see the Badgers climb up the ranks again.
