In a breaking news report from ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Jeff Teague is planning to sign with the Bucks. Teague is going to be reunited with Coach Mike Budenholzer in Milwaukee. Teague will fit in well as the backup point guard for Milwaukee, and he also brings a veteran presence to a locker room filled with young players and rookies. Let’s take a quick look at what Jeff Teague brings to this Milwaukee Bucks team.
Reliable Shooting
While Teague’s stats certainly aren’t huge numbers, he brings in exactly what the Bucks need off the bench. In the 2020-2021 season in Boston, he averaged 6.9 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 2.1 assists. He is shooting 41% from the field as well as 46% from beyond the arc. As his shooting splits show, his shooting is reliable and will slot in perfectly behind Jrue Holiday in the backup point guard position. The shooting production from the bench has been an issue all season and Jeff Teague should help with those shooting issues.
Veteran Presence and Leadership
Teague is a veteran in the league. While he is past his prime, he still brings value in his leadership ability. Teague is 32 years old and playing in his 13th season in the NBA. During his NBA career, he spent 7 seasons in Atlanta. Teague also spent 3 seasons playing under Coach Budenholzer which may also help familiarize him in the system. Bringing in a player like Teague is not all about scoring, he also brings in leadership. Teague is a player that can complement Giannis very well, and we will most likely see that almost immediately.
Conclusion
While Jeff Teague certainly isn’t a flashy player, he brings a lot of value. Having a reliable backup point guard is exactly what the Bucks need. This is a low-risk signing and one that could help lead the Bucks to a playoff run. Welcome to Milwaukee Jeff Teague!
