The Green Bay Packers have been hit with the injury bug all year long it seems. Offense, defense, and special teams have all been plagued with injury. As we enter week 13 that is no different. The Packers recently informed the public that they will be without yet another defender for the rest of the year. This time an outside linebacker. OLB Tipa Galeai will not be activated from injured reserve.
OLB Tipa Galeai Won’t Return This Season
Galeai was designated for return from injured reserve on Nov. 9. This came after sitting out four games with a hamstring injury. Unfortunately, Galeai suffered a setback in his recovery a few weeks ago and hasn’t practiced since. The window to activate him to the 53-man roster has closed, so he’ll finish the 2022 season on injured reserve.
In five games this season, Galeai did not see field on defense. He did however log 85 snaps on special teams for the Packers. He was in on four tackles, his combination of size and athleticism made him an effective weapon on special teams. Galeai was an undrafted free agent in 2020 out of Utah State. He averaged about 20 snaps per game during the final seven weeks of last season. He had his first career sack against Cleveland. During training camp this summer, he emerged with a coveted spot on the 53-man roster. It may be hard for him to fight for a roster spot going forward especially given his rookie contract will be up soon. Will this be the last of Tipa Galeai on the Packers?
