Wisconsin was seen as a favorite for awhile to land the former Tiger. In two seasons at Clemson, Mellusi recorded 427 yards, 6 touchdowns, and a 6.0 yard per carry average. While these numbers are not eye popping, it was hard for Mellusi to see the field playing behind former Clemson running back Travis Etienne. Mellusi is the second transfer Wisconsin has landed, joining former Oregon defensive end Isaac Townsend. Mellusi will have three years of eligibility.
What This Means For Wisconsin
This is really good news for the Badgers. After Jalen Berger, there was a ton of questions at the running back depth chart. There is little experience on the roster so adding a player like Mellusi should create a really good 1-2 punch with Jalen Berger.
I expect Berger to get a majority of the reps but Mellusi seems to be the favorite to be the number 2 back when fall camp opens up. Wisconsin has always had great running back combos (except Jonathan Taylor when he did it all). This is what the Badgers are good at and grabbing a back from a college football powerhouse like Clemson should only help.
