Milwaukee Bucks veteran forward and NBA Champion Thanasis Antetokounmpo has a new podcast that he host. Called “Thanalysis,” he is releasing pre-recorded interviews with his teammates to talk about life, Milwaukee, and their NBA experience. His first episode dropped today, February 7. Bobby Portis was his first guest and talked about how the COVID-19 pandemic and shutdown played a role in his choosing of the Milwaukee Bucks in free agency. He also discussed how the Chicago media created friction between Derrick Rose and Jimmy Butler when they played for the Bulls.
Why Bobby Portis Chose to Play for the Milwaukee Bucks
As many people know from previous interviews that Portis has done, part of the reason he chose the Bucks was because he wanted to play on a winning team. He discussed that reason along with others with Thanasis:
“Being at home for nine months straight was definitely tough. And the Knicks turned down my option, I had a team option at the time, and they turned down my option. I had a teams that were offering a lot more money than the Bucks could at the time, but to me it wasn’t about the money. It was more about getting to a culture of winning, of stability, playing with players that wanted to win just like I wanted to win. I was tired of losing. It was definitely a tough first five years of my career.”
Portis, of course, played the first five seasons of his career with the Chicago Bulls, Washington Wizards, and New York Knicks. During his time with these teams, they did not play well and were consistently out of the Eastern Conference playoff race.
Addressing How the Media Created Drama in the Chicago Locker Room
“I got like the last year of D Rose with the Bulls. I didn’t get the full effects of what he was before I got there. Cuz’ by the time I got there of them trying to make it more of whose team is it. Is it Jimmy Butler’s team or is it Derrick Rose’s team? The media kind of created that narrative. You know, that’s how it is in bigger markets. They create these narratives and they run with it.”
The full interview can be heard in its entirety in the link at the beginning of this article. Thanasis is a fantastic host and does a masterful job of guiding the discussion. This podcast will be a must listen for every Bucks fan!
