For the 14th time this season, Bobby Portis came off the bench to provide a double-double for the Bucks.  He had 22 points and 14 rebounds in the Bucks’ 123-114 victory over Minnesota Friday night, which snapped a four-game losing streak.

Portis broke the team record for most double-doubles in a season by a bench player. The previous record was 13 games held by Greg Monroe in 2016-17.

Bobby Portis now holds the #1 spot in this Bucks’ career stat

He also broke the Bucks’ career record for most double-doubles by a non-starter with his performance against the Timberwolves. That was Portis’ 22nd career double-double coming off the bench for the Bucks, surpassing the all-time record of 21 double-doubles by a reserve player previously held by Ersan Ilyasova.

Here’s a look at the Bucks’ players who had the most double-doubles in a season coming off the bench.

    14-Bobby Portis, 2022-23
    13-Greg Monroe, 2016-17
    10-Alton Lister, 1985-86
    7-Bobby Portis, 2020-21
    5-Cornell Warner, 1973-74
    5-Swen Nater, 1976-77
    5-Marty Conlon, 1994-95
    5-Armen Gilliam, 1996-97
    5-Michael Redd, 2002-03
    5-Ersan Ilyasova, 2009-10

With 14 double-doubles coming off the bench in the Bucks first 35 games, Portis may have a shot at the NBA record for most double-doubles in a season by a reserve. He is on pace to have 33 games at the end of the season. If he reached that number, he would become the fifth player all-time to have 30 or more double-doubles in a season coming off the bench.

Can Portis challenge the NBA single-season record?

Jeff Ruland holds the NBA all-time single-season record for most double-doubles in a season coming off the bench with 39.

Here are the players with the most double-doubles in a season as a non-starter.

    39-Jeff Ruland, Washington, 1981-82
    38-Detlef Schrempf, Indiana, 1991-92
    35-Roy Tarpley, Dallas, 1987-88
    34-Paul Silas, Boston, 1975-76

Bobby Portis is three games away from a Top 10 spot in NBA career stat

Portis now has 49 career-game double-doubles coming off the bench. That puts him in 11th place on the all-time list. Next on the list are Dennis Rodman and Kermit Washington with 51 double-doubles as a reserve. Three more double-doubles coming off the bench this season and Portis jumps into ninth place on the all-time list.

Detlef Schrempf has the most double-doubles by a player coming off the bench with 106.
