The Green Bay Packers officially put their wide receiver corps on notice at mandatory minicamp on Tuesday. The Packers added receivers Matthew Golden (first round) and Savion Williams (third round) in the draft this year.

While the Packers have yet to sort out who will be the true No. 1 receiver for Jordan Love, with Jayden Reed still on the roster and Christian Watson recovering from the injury he suffered in Week 18, Green Bay sent another experienced wide receiver a warning with just over a month before training camp starts in July.

Per Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, head coach Matt LaFleur and his coaching staff moved Bo Melton to cornerback for mandatory minicamp a day after Jaire Alexander was cut from the roster. Green Bay wants to try Melton out for the same position his brother, Max Melton, plays for as a member of the Arizona Cardinals.

“Packers have moved WR Bo Melton to CB,” Silverstein posted on X. “GM Brian Gutekunst said they love his play on special teams and coaches were open to seeing him on defense. His brother Max is a starting CB for the Cardinals.”

The Seattle Seahawks drafted Melton in the seventh round of the 2022 draft. The Packers signed Melton off the Seahawks’ practice squad during the 2022 season.

Melton has appeared in 22 games and started in one during his time with Green Bay. He’s recorded 24 receptions for 309 yards and two touchdowns in that span. He’s added 75 yards on the ground and has one kick return for 15 yards.

Melton, 26, has played in 390 offensive snaps and 154 special teams snaps.

The Packers would prefer to keep Melton on the team, but the role for the former Rutgers Scarlet Knights standout will be expected expected to change before Week 1. Melton has three months to become acquainted with cornerback in order to keep his spot on the 53-man roster in 2025.
