Bill Belichick is one of the greatest coaches in NFL history. The run he went on from 2002 to 2019 was incredible. Six championships in an 18 year span is remarkable. ALMOST as remarkable as Vince Lombardi’s five championships in seven years. However, that’s another debate for another time. The Packers and Patriots face off on Sunday, and Bill Belichick was asked his thoughts of facing the Packers’ franchise. He had a lot to say.
Bill Belichick Talks Packers’ Franchise
Throughout the week Belichick has given nods to the Packers’ franchise and its history. He touched on it again in his press conference Friday, via Pro Football Talk.
I talked about this Wednesday, but I had a chance to show the team some of the great Packer players, coaches, [Curly] Lambeau, so we all know who Lambeau is. Saw him on the sideline. [Clarke] Hinkle, [Cecil] Isbell, [Don] Hutson, great,” Belichick said. “Some of the great players there. Just connecting the dots a little bit there. Lot of tradition there, lot of tradition going into Lambeau. Seeing those names up on the stadium.
Sunday will be the sixth time Bill Belichick has faced off against the Packers as the Patriots head coach. Currently, he is 3-2 all time Vs Green Bay. The last win at Lambeau came in 2014 when Jordy Nelson had that infamous 45 yard touchdown pass to the house against Darrell Revis. The final of that game was 26-21. Belichick is 1-1 all time at Lambeau Field. It was certainly cool to hear one of the greatest head coaches of all time reference the impact that the Packers’ franchise has had on the game. This was yet another reminder that football didn’t start in 1966 when the Super Bowl was created. Many fans nowadays forget that.
